HOLY WEEK

Holy Week is the last week of Lent, and marks the final days before Easter Sunday. It is observed in many Christian churches as a time to commemorate and enact the suffering (Passion) and death of Jesus through various observances and services of worship.

Palm Sunday commemorates the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and begins the series of observances focusing on the events of Holy Week. This Sunday is also often referred to as Passion Sunday, marking the beginning of the passion or suffering of Jesus leading to and including the crucifixion.

On Maundy Thursday, also known as Holy Thursday, we remember the last night Jesus spent with the disciples before his crucifixion. We receive communion, read scripture, and end the service by stripping the altar and descending into darkness.

The Easter season begins on Sunday, April 9, 2023. We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and everything he accomplished on the Cross, including making it known to us that nothing needs to separate us from the God who loves us. We have spent Lent preparing for the celebration of Easter and we end our worship by shouting, "He is Risen!"
